Description:
Mebendazole 100mg by Cipla is an anthelmintic (anti-worm) medication used to treat parasitic worm infections. It works by preventing the worms from absorbing glucose, ultimately leading to their death and elimination from the body.
Uses:
- Treatment of intestinal worm infections, including:
- Pinworms (Enterobiasis)
- Roundworms (Ascariasis)
- Whipworms (Trichuriasis)
- Hookworms (Ancylostomiasis & Necatoriasis)
- May also be used for other parasitic infections as prescribed by a doctor.
How It Works:
Mebendazole inhibits the worms’ ability to use glucose for energy, causing them to lose mobility and die. The dead worms are then naturally expelled through stool.
Dosage & Administration:
- Adults & Children (above 2 years):
- For pinworm infections: Single 100mg dose, may repeat after 2 weeks if needed.
- For other worm infections: 100mg twice daily for 3 days.
- Can be taken with or without food.
- Chewable or swallowed whole with water.
Precautions:
- Not recommended for children under 2 years without medical advice.
- Use with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women.
- Avoid alcohol while taking this medication.
- Inform your doctor if you have liver disease or are taking other medications.
Side Effects:
- Common: Stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness
- Rare but Serious: Allergic reactions, liver enzyme abnormalities, seizures (very rare)
